DO NOT BRING YOUR ITEMS THERE!!! It is expensive and the quality of work is very poor. The owner is rude and does not hesitate to shout insults and use profane language at you when confronted about it or if you ask questions.
He will not refund your money or even try to fix the problem in any way.
I think he uses unskilled or poorly skilled labor to do the work and then charges us premium. It is not worth paying $25 to repair shoes if it is not done right!
Please read on, the specifics are pretty astonishing (I can hardly believe this happened with a local business):
I just picked up two items after repair at Step"n Out. One was a handbag that needed a fix in a very small place where the stitching came out (total size less than 1.5 inches) and the other a pair of Prada shoes that needed a replacement of a small leather loop with about 3/4 inch of stitching. Both stitching jobs came out as very poor quality, not straight and the size of stitching was wrong, color not matched. No effort was made to make it right, I could have done it better myself. I was charged about $45 ($16.95 and $24.99 plus tax) which was expensive. When taking the job in, he owner assured me it will be fine and I would be happy. He charges upfront so you do not have any recourse (except to write about it like I am doing now so others do not make the same mistake).
When I saw how badly it was done, I asked to get the job re-done, or somehow fixed, since it was not straight, the owner refused, I insisted, but the owner started yelling at me that no, he will not do anything and, quote" these are just shoes, who cares what it looks like". And then he got really angry and started shouting at the top of his lungs - I quote - "Stupid woman, get the f out" - and repeated the f word several times - I am not joking, after that he made other sexist comments I will not try to repeat here. I tried to talk back but the owner was shouting so loudly and started to make profane gestures with his hands, so I ran out of the store. I was shaking for half an hour after that.
So not only did I not get it fixed right, I overpaid for something I should have done myself probably, but the insult and outrageous behaviour of the
owner were incredible and nothing I have ever seen in a place of business.
I think we in Santa Barbara have to put a stop to such practices, not tolerate sexist comments and profanities and boycott a business that not only does a poor job, but treats it customers with such disrespect.
