Review 3/3/2011
I initially became aware of Karplus Warehouse by way of an Ad for a quick pick tow truck that they had posted on E-bay. I was contacted by a representative of Karplus, thus began the dreaded journey. I reside in Idaho and with Karplus being located in California, the sales representative suggested that I hire someone to complete an inspection of the vehicle for me. So this is what I did. I paid the extra fee to the inspection firm to have the commercial inspection completed on the vehicle and made a special request to have the operation of the tow apparatus checked. The inspector stated in his report that the dealership did not allow him to check the tow apparatus for safety reasons but that they had a professional personnel inspect it prior and that everything worked perfect. I questioned the individual that I was dealing with at the dealership about why the inspector was not able to complete my special request and he claimed that he invited the inspector to go to their service department where someone who knows how to work the bed could show that it was operational, but that my inspector did not have time. The inspection was scheduled for 1200 noon PST. and was to last 2 hrs. By 1:43pm MST (that is less than 45 minutes after the inspection began) my inspection was posted in my e-mail inbox. I was also assured in writing by their representative that the tow apparatus was operational and this representatives stated in the e-mail that "My manager will guarantee it if it does not work." So the representative of Karplus e-mailed their account routing information and "Buyers Agreement" with the terms of our agreement. 1. I would placed a deposit (by wire) on the vehicle to hold it until the following week when I could fly to Pacoima. 2.At this time I had the option to rescind the agreement and receive my deposit back if the tow apparatus did not function OR have the agreed upon remaining amount wired to their account to finalize the transaction. I believed things were good. I booked a flight to be in Pacoima for early in the mornig so that all paper work could be processed and I could be on my way home that same day. Around noon, 1 and 1/2 days before I was to fly out, I received a phone call from the Karplus representative stating that the tow bed was not working and that it wold cost a substantial amount of money to fix it. I ask this individual if he intended on trying to past this cost on to me, he replied that the dealership was thinking of returning the vehicle to the auction firm that they received it from. I tersely informed the individual that they would be in Breach of Contract by doing this, he only replied that he would get back with me. A few hours later I was informed that they had returned the vehicle to the auction firm. I demanded answers. First of all, why wasn't I informed of the issue initially rather than the guarantees that I received. Secondly, why was I not apprised of the issue and given the choice of rescinding the contract or buying the vehicle although being suddenly informed of the problems. Thirdly. I requested to know what auction firm the vehicle was returned to. The individual said he would have to get back with me on that. I repeatedly called (most of the time I was forced to just leave a message without any reply) and requested the auction firms name so that I could contact them to find out what the deal was and if I could purchase the vehicle from them. Again I was denied any answers. Eventually after numerous phone calls I was told to quit calling because they were a busy place and they couldn't do anything else for me because the vehicle was not on their lot any more and that they would not answer my calls if I kept calling. I sent a certified letter to the dealership notifying them that I had contacted a lawyer and that they were in Breach of Contract, but that I gave them seven business days to rectify the issue or I would proceed with legal actions. The seventh day has come and all I have received was my deposit and a letter stating " The purpose of this is to convey to you our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced with respect to the vehicle that you were interested. We are committed to give excellent service and would be happy to serve you in the near future. Thank you for considering our company and again, we are sorry for the inconvenience it may cause you. Karplus has treated a prospective customer with the utmost disregard and disrespect. I believe that the vehicle I was purchasing is already rolling down the road somewhere, with some other owner in it. These people claim that they sell upwards of 3000 cars a year. With statistics like that and the customer relations that I received from them, Your just another statistic and a commission check to these people. This is what I think of there slogan "Where the Circle of Trust Begins" These guys are crooked!!!!!! Watch your self, don't be the next person to have to receive their apologies.
