Review 10/23/2009
On October 23, 2009 I fell victim to deceit and defamation. An offer I submitted for a property in Los Angeles was accepted by the Seller. I received the paperwork from my real estate agent on October 22, 2009 via email. She said I needed to sign it and return it to her. Okay, I told her, but I wanted to read it thoroughly before I signed.

As I began to read the contract, it stated that I had 10 days from the date the seller accepted my offer, which was not October 22nd – the day I received this paperwork – but rather October 16th. Basically I had 3 calendar days to satisfy myself with the condition of the property through inspections and other things I wanted to get done. Which I thought was rather unfair.

So I called my other agent (it’s a duo) and asked him about that date discrepancy. He was in his office and passed the phone to his partner, the woman who sent me the email, so she could clarify. I explained to her what I read and she said, “No, the 10 days starts from the date the seller signs the offer.” I was not keen with that. Why? Well, it was right there in black and white that the 10 days started from October 16th not from the day the seller signs. (Note: if this was a court proceeding, there’s no way I could say to the judge, “Well she said such-and-such…” right? He’d make his judgment based on the paperwork.) Suffice it to say, I told her I didn’t want to proceed with this property because it didn’t feel right to me. I said goodbye to her and I thought she was going to pass the phone back to my other agent. She didn’t. She set it down without releasing the call, unbeknownst to her, and I heard what they really thought of me.

He began to slander me. He said if I didn't understand these paragraphs after she explained it to me, than it was my problem. He said I didn’t know what I wanted and I'm such a “drama queen.” Wow. I kept listening until he stopped then hung up. I called him back and he was so cheery when he said, “Hello.” I said plainly, “Make sure your phone is off before you start talking badly about your clients. I heard everything you said about me. Obviously I don't want to work with you two anymore.” All he said was, “Oh, okay… well, it’s mutual.” I couldn't believe he didn’t even apologize for his behavior.

To be honest, if he equated my inquiries and questions regarding the documents I was about to sign for a $200,000 loan “drama,” than he is seriously mistaken. I called my former agents’ broker and notified him and that I was no longer going to work with his company.

We all know that businesses are only as good as their employees, and if this situation is any indication of their code of ethics: buyers beware.

I really felt that these two agents were hoping that I was going to “go with the flow” and sign something I didn’t understand – just so they could earn their commission. Boy, were they wrong. Not only have I posted this review, I have also contacted the California Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the California Department of Real Estate.

I hope that any or all of these organizations investigate the business practices that are occurring at this establishment as quickly as possible to keep crooked agents like these two from taking advantage of consumers.
