Review 11/8/2010
Summary *Misquoted price to lead me into the dealership and then changed price at last minute (classic bait and switch - they quoted me in an email the out the door price (including all taxes, all other licensing fees etc) and ultimately charged $4000 more. Sales person acknowledged the mistake and said he would not honor the price he gave me. *Would not release car to any other dealership because they knew we wanted it so I ultimately purchased the car from them. *Will not follow up on emails/phone calls after sale was completed (I was missing a car manual and had problems with the entertainment system) *DId not fulfill promises to send other ancillary item in a timely fashion (promised to send cargo nets next day through FedEx but it took several weeks and several phone calls, emails and calls to manager to actually receive cargo nets) *Will not fulfill promises for 2 free oil changes at any dealership. *Claim that I am unreasonable because I'd like them to return my phone calls or emails and honor the promises they made (which I have proof of in writing). Generally it has taken several weeks plus several phone calls and emails later to elicit a response. The manager is equally unresponsive and is also downright hostile! I usually don't write reviews but I want to warn other customers about Surf City Nissan so that they will not be duped like I was. I used a car buying program through my credit card company and found Surf City Nissan. They contacted me about the car I wanted to buy and the sales person there quoted me an out the door price (including all taxes, license fees etc.) When I got to the dealership, he tried to charge me $4000 more than what he initially quoted. I showed him the email he had sent me which detailed the exact price that I should be getting. At first, he pretended to be confused but then he acknowledged that he misquoted the price and said he would not honor that initial price. We called other dealerships that we had been talking to but unfortunately Surf City had already traded with the only other dealership in the area that had the vehicle we wanted and even when we said we would not buy the car, they would not release it to any other dealership. They basically held the car hostage so that we either had to buy it from them or not buy the model we wanted at all. So that was the first problem. But then the sales person convinced me that he made an honest mistake about the price and being a fool, I believed him so I decided the buy the car from them anyway. I asked him to throw in cargo nets and he said it was no problem. He also offered me a couple of free oil changes which I could have done at any dealership I wanted. Surf City is a bit far for me to go to. But then he said he didn't have any cargo nets available right there but he would FedEx them to me the following day. A couple of weeks passed and I still hadn't received anything so I called and emailed. I was also missing a car manual and had a problem with my entertainment system so I left a message stating that as well. Several more weeks passed. I finally called a manager and he never returned my calls either. Then I called the primary manager and he was really rude. Then I think a few more weeks passed and at some point I eventually rec'd cargo nets and manual. Now that I'm ready for my oil change, I reached out to the sales person and he won't return my calls. I've called the manager and someone returned my call but then said that they won't honor oil changes at any other dealerships. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the dealership responded saying that I am an unreasonable customer. If asking the dealership to honor the price they gave me or honor other promises they've made seems unreasonable, then yes, I am unreasonable. If expected a response within 2, 3, 4 weeks of when I've reached out to them seems unreasonable, then perhaps I am a diva. Just call me Aretha and hand me a Snickers bar! I have evidence of all of my claims. Emails with the price and the invoice I've paid. Emails with the promises and follow up emails months later. I challenge Surf City to produce any evidence that they have responded in a timely fashion or that they have lived up to their promises. I don't take these reviews lightly but I know they have several other complaints against them as well on other websites. I just wish I had done some research before going there!
